I love the idea that they play best of 3 for the final. That means no getting away with a lucky win. Whoever wins has to earn it. MAn those pitches are going to be important.

arjun- 03-12-2007

I agree, shud be 3 match finals henceforth. About the pitches..well the best team will win, toss, pitches etc just part of the game and the best team/players will come out on top under any situation.

I wrote this long sarcastic response but it kinda felt like beating on my sister... if i had one. So i deleted it. I will add that if you have not played your cricket on grass pitches or played day/night cricket then I do understand that you wouldnt have the experience or cricketing intellect to assess if the toss or pitch is important or not. Seriously now... do you think all those INTERNATIONAL cricketing greats have been talking about the toss and pitch type for over a hundred years cause they are trying to make idle conversation?

arjun- 03-21-2007

No of course the toss and pitch makes a difference. I never said it didn't, all i meant to say was the way the pitch behaves and winning/losing the toss is part of the game. Some teams/players will play better in the same conditions and thats the team that should come out on top. Better players are more competent in dealing with detoriating pitch conditions or the ball moving in the morning due to the dew. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

Scott- 03-21-2007

So what your trying to say is that the best team that is most suited to the ground conditions and that has the favourable toss will win? the best team is decided by the ground conditions though, ie on bouncy pitches australia is good, on flat pitches india, on compo pitches north shore etc! anyone got any idea where i can watch australia vs south africa on saturday?

arjun- 03-21-2007

Well its not that Australia is more accustomed to playing well on a bouncy track so they would only win when they play on a bouncy track, they beat india in india on turning tracks as well the last time. They played better under those circumstances, so the better team came out on top. This is precisely what I meant to say. Btw the pitch dint have much to do with India or Pakistan, losing their games against ireland and bangladesh. They just dint play well on that day. St.Patricks day massacre!

What can I say, India...ouch! Any comments on their perforamnce?

Silent Assassin- 03-23-2007

What can I say, India...ouch! Any comments on their perforamnce? Scotty, I always believe that assertiveness + mental acumen is a big part of cricket. India has gone soft since Ganguly was dethroned as the skipper. Ganguly brought a level of arrogance and self-belief in the blokes that Dravid is incapable of doing because of his expressionless demeanor. Sad indeed, because the world needs a good Indian team. There is no other nation that gets so hyped up where cricket is concern. Maximum Respect Mate!

arjun- 03-25-2007

Mark is right, I always believed that, dravid is not a good captain. He doesnt have the arrogance the personality to lead a team like india. Ganguly said it himself, its probably the toughest job in india, to captain the indian team. You cannot be a softee and thats wht dravid is when it comes to controlling 10 other people. Captains leads the way and does not always have to be with the bat or ball, it cud be with the mind set the aggression, body language, which as far as dravid is concerned only happens when he comes to bat. Neway, life goes on and so does the world cup, I never back India anyway to win. I though Safrica and the kiwis looked good, but it was unfortunate yesterday things dint go the saffies way. I watched the game and devilliers played a great knock. Aussies came out on top tho. May the best team win.

Well not only india, even pakistan performed horribly we all know bangladesh can pull some off but who would've expected ireland to pull it off...no excuses there pakistan should've won...they didnt means they didnt deserve to go ahead...as far as india goes they r the most pressurized team in ICC if they dont win they have to worry about people burning their houses back home...u gotta feel for these players
